Five years of a system that keeps improving

The problem

Walk into a wire EDM shop holding tolerances in ten-thousandths and you would expect the quality system to be just as precise. Instead, the paperwork dated to 2006: typed inspection tags, rejected-material forms, and a manual written for a version of ISO 9001 two revisions out of date. The owners needed a system lean enough to sustain without a full-time quality manager, and a partner to keep it breathing between audits.

What we did

• Retired the 2006-era documentation and rebuilt the QMS in 2021 on a clean, controlled structure with a documented EDM work instruction
• Enrolled the shop in a Management System Maintenance Program: scheduled check-ins, annual internal audit, management review facilitation, and audit-prep support every cycle
• Added capability year over year: a contract review and QA close-out checklist (now Rev 3.0), a supplier re-evaluation scorecard, and an annual calibration log
• Kept context of the organization, the process interaction map, and the QMS Manual current through each surveillance and recertification audit
• Produced the customer certification form that goes out with every shipped order
